What Motivates Jehovah's Witnesses To Stay In The Religion?
by minimus ini believe it is mostly guilt.
many witnesses pioneer or "reach out" in the religion because they feel guilty.. they may feel they aren't doing enough.
they may have secretly "sinned" against rules imposed by the organization.

What motivates..... I would say What forces JW's to stay.
The short answer is fear.

Don't run away. Do research about JW's. It abounds in the internet and most of it is very relaible because it came out of the Watchtower printers. Once you know few of the controversies, start asking questions. Just don't be confrontational. You may be able to plant a seed that will grow and help liberate people from the authoritarian and cruel grasp of this evil organization.

Let me summarize my main observations:
Science: They (Jehovah's witnesses) rely on science to gather information to show their readers how wonderful creation is, but reject it the moment it offers any evidence that challenges their dogma or theology.
History: They need historians to obtain dates to back up their multiple failed prophecies, but reject historians when they show that their theology is founded on error. Then they fabricate their own history. Research the destruction of Jerusalem, was it in 607 or 587?
Archaeology: same as above.
Linguistics: They need linguists, especially experts of the ancient languages of the Bible, but reject them the moment their theology is threatened. Research "the Cross"
Biblical Scholarship: same as above.
The double standards are all over the place. Is it hypocrisy or the leaders don't know what they are doing?. It's a combination, I believe. However the main reason is that they want to maintain absolute power at all cost over the innocent rank and file.
The list of inconsistencies is very, very long. Do your research and when you are done, start teaching your teachers. they are innocent victims that need help.

Hey Billy the kid.
Just be persistent. Don't leave. Don't stop debating. In time, just like many in here, you will become another apostate. That's the power of truth.
The U.N. is not a cult. However, it admits even cults as NGO's. Wait... it's at the tip of my tongue, Wat..ever. Watchery.... got it. Watchtower is the name of a cult that was as a U.N. NGO in the 90's.

"Your truth is your truth, and mine is mine"
Typical cultish response. History is probability. You guys can settle your differences by accepting the evidence. Compare the different scenarios and embrace the most probale one. The evidence says the Watchtower is very probably wrong and they know it. therefore they are liars.
Read Carl Olof Jonsson's "Gentile Times Reconsidered" and put the evidence he presents to the test. I did. He is right, the Watchtower is lying

Being an atheist since 13 because my dislike of the unloving God and my love of science, I can understand your position. I am also amazed as how cults can control people as intelligent as many of the best posters here. It's a big mystery. Seeing is believing. Cults do have a power that I can't explain. Just amazing!

if you think more or lots more can you spot a time or event when it started to change?.

King Solomon? I remember, smart guy, but not the type that can make many friends. I think you guys are right, he is back. I am glad. I think I am gonna sit and read. I have high respect for the intelects of both Cofty and Adamah (or King Solomon). Both certainly have much to teach me.
Thomas Covenant,
Those quotes seem unbelievable. I can not find anything in the WT library. Have they been removed? Do they come from reliable sources?
